Desmarais, Katz, Dolan & Wright Named United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III New England Women's Soccer Coaching Staff of the Year

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (November 22) - MIT women's soccer head coach Martin Desmarais along with associate head coach Jeff Katz and assistant coaches Katelyn Dolan and Meghan Wright have been named as the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III New England Women's Soccer Coaching Staff of the Year, as the organization released its selections last Wednesday night.

Desmarais, who was also named as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Coach of the Year this season, earned his second career honor from the United Soccer Coaches organization as he was previously named the NCAA Division III New England Women's Soccer Coach of the Year back in 2012.

Desmarais, who has been at the helm of the MIT women's soccer team since 2008, is the program's all-time leader in wins with 136 as his record of 136-46-27 has been good enough for a winning percentage of .715 over ten years with the Engineers.

Desmarais, Katz, Dolan and Wright guided MIT to its best season in program history in 2017. The Engineers finished with a record of 20-2-1, won the program's fourth NEWMAC title, earned the program's sixth straight regular season championship and reached the NCAA Tournament's Round of 16 for the first time since 2012. Additionally, MIT broke seven team records including win percentage, most wins, longest win streak, most wins to start a season, goals, assists and points. The Engineers also tied the program record for highest national ranking as MIT sat at No. 13 for the majority of the campaign.

During its run in the NCAA Tournament, which included a pair of home games in the opening rounds, featured victories over Castleton University and Middlebury College. This season, the Engineers were also victorious over No. 6 Brandeis University in their season opener and posted the team's second undefeated mark in NEWMAC play with a record of 9-0-1.
