MIT Picked First in Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll

WESTWOOD, Mass. - The New England Women and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) has announced the 2018 Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll, after an impressive and competitive 2017 season. The league is excited to see what the 2018 campaign will bring for each of the 11 teams.

After winning the NEWMAC championship in 2017 for the first time since 2011 and appearing in the NCAA Sectional Semifinals, MIT has been picked to finish first with 10 first place votes. Springfield, who advanced to the NEWMAC title game last season, follows in second. Tied for third after NEWMAC tournament appearances last year are Wheaton, with one first place vote, and Babson, as WPI landed in fifth with Wellesley and Clark in sixth and seventh, respectively. Rounding out the remaining slots are No. 8 Emerson, No. 9 Coast Guard, No. 10 Smith, and No. 11 Mount Holyoke.

The NEWMAC will see 12 All-Conference selections return, along with five All-Region honorees (Emily Berzolla, Hailey Nichols, Amy Apostol, MIT; Hannah Lepordo, Wheaton; Kristen McCrea, WPI). The NEWMAC also welcomes back two major award winners in Nichols (Defensive Athlete of the Year) and Lepordo (Rookie of the Year).
