Wheaton Freshman Melida Alvarez named NEWMAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week

NEWMAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week: 

Melida Alvarez, Wheaton College, F, FR (Saugus, MA)

Alvarez had an impressive showing for the nationally-ranked Lyons last week, assisting two goals late in a 2-1 win over regional rival Amherst before netting a natural hat trick in the first 8:09 of a 7-1 win over NEWMAC foe MIT. Wheaton trailed, 1-0 on Wednesday against the Lord Jeffs before Alvarez notched assists during the 84th and 87th minutes to help the Lyons come from behind. On Saturday against MIT, Alvarez played only the initial 20 minutes, scoring the first three goals of the game at 1:41, 3:16 and 8:09. She leads the Lyons with 10 goals and three game-winners.
