Smith Head Coach Kim Bierwert Appointed To NCAA Division III Swimming Committee
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Kim Bierwert, head coach
of swimming and diving at Smith College, has been appointed to the
NCAA Division III swimming committee for a four year term starting
in September of 2011.
The committee serves as the guiding committee for Division III
swimming. It reviews, directs, and oversees the operational
aspects of conducting the championships from a procedural
standpoint. The committee also reviews sport specific rule
submissions and implements the incorporation of those rules into
the rule book.
"I am excited about the prospect of working with the members of
the committee to help foster the growth of swimming and diving in
Division III," said Bierwert. "I am hopeful that we can
continue to create a championship for Division III that is
competitive, exciting and well run. The championship should
continue to recognize and honor the performances and
accomplishments of the athletes as athletes and students in line
with the philosophy of Division III."
Bierwert becomes the sixth member of the Smith athletic department
to serve or have served on a NCAA committee. Director of
Athletics and Recreation Lynn Oberbillig chaired the NCAA Executive
Comittee, while Karen Klinger '87 served on the rowing committee,
and assistant athletic director and former volleyball coach Bonnie
May still sits on the volleyball committee. Head track &
field coach Carla Coffey served on the first NCAA committee for
that sport when it was combined from the Association for
Intercollegiate Athletics for Women, and Christine Davis has been a
part of the NCAA tennis committee.
