Springfield Leads After Second Day of NEWMAC Women's Swimming and Diving Championship

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Springfield College continued to assert its dominance at the 2009 NEWMAC Women's Swimming and Diving Championships as the Pride swept both relays while snagging three individual victories to pull ahead by 101 points. With one day remaining in the three-day competition, MIT leap-frogged Wheaton for second place in the team standings and leads the Lyons by a narrow margin.

The Pride smashed a conference, meet, and pool record in the 200 medley relay during the first event of finals. The team of Megan Cooney, Moira Price, Kaitlin Reilly, and Caroline Kosciusko combined to swim 1:45.70 while picking up an NCAA "B" cut. Price snagged her second individual NCAA "A" cut in as many days as she swam 1:04.14 to win the 100 breast, while Cooney split 58.12 to take top honors in the 100 back. Both performances resulted in new meet records.

Springfield also secured a victory in the 400 IM by Meredith Trumbull and closed the meet with a victory in the 800 free relay.

Kimberly Shadwick of Coast Guard won her second event of the Championships with a meet record and NCAA "B" cut in the 200 free. MIT was the only other team to net a conference title as Amy Jacobi led a 1-2 finish for the Engineers in the 100 fly. Jacobi set NEWMAC open and meet records in the event during prelims.
