NEWMAC Announces 2007 Women's Tennis All-Conference Team

Babson Park, Mass. - The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced its 2007 Women's Tennis Post-Season awards on Tuesday. Regular season and tournament champion Wellesley College led the way with five First Team and three Second Team selections; league runner-up MIT followed with three First Team and four Second Team selections.

MIT Sophomore Leslie Hansen (Fairfax, Va.), last season's NEWMAC Rookie of the Year, was named the 2007 NEWMAC Athlete of the Year. She was also named to the First Team at number one singles. Wellesley First-Year Shivani Saxena (Milan, Italy) was named NEWMAC Rookie of the year and made the First Team at number three singles. In addition, Wellesley Coach Christine Franek was named NEWMAC Coach of the Year and Wellesley captured the league's Sportsmanship Award.

Joining Saxena on the First Team from Wellesley were senior Trish Devine (Westport, Mass.) at number two, first-year Jacqueline Shen (Calgary, Alberta, CA) at number four, sophomore Meghan Stubblebine (Bridgeville, Penn.) at number five and sophomore Mohona Siddique (Chevy Chase, Md.) at number six. Hansen and senior Mariah Hoover (Orlando, Fla.) were named First Team at number one doubles. Their MIT teammates, sophomore Anisa McCree (Acton, Mass.) and first-year Liz Denys (Naperville, Ill.), were named First Team at number two doubles.
