Jan 5, 2010 Daniel Griffin Named MIT's Interim Head Coach of Womens Tennis CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Daniel Griffin, a two-year
assistant coach with MIT's women's tennis team, will serve as the
interim head coach during the spring 2010 season. He will guide the
squad during current head coach Carol Matsuzaki's leave of absence
as she and her partner prepare for the birth of their first child.
Matsuzaki, the program's all-time winningest coach, will return to
her post for the 2010-11 campaign.
Griffin's contributions towards match preparation and on-court
coaching during practices and matches resulted in the Engineers
earning a national ranking of No. 25 last season. This past fall,
MIT upset Babson College to advance to the semifinals of the New
England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship
Tournament.
A local product, Griffin played high school tennis at the Thayer
Academy in Braintree, Mass. before a brief training stint at the
Saddlebrook Tennis Academy in Tampa, Fla. He continued his career
at Connecticut College and upon graduation Griffin played
competitively with his successes generating regional and national
rankings.
Griffin is a certified member of the United States Professional
Tennis Association and works in MIT's Alumni Association in the
Office of Annual Fundraising. He is currently pursuing dual
master's degrees from Suffolk University in Political Science and
Public Administration.
