Babson Women's Tennis Adavances to NEWMAC Semifinals

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - The fourth ranked Babson College women's tennis team defeated fifth ranked Mount Holyoke College, 5-1,  in the quarterfinal round of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) championships hosted by Mount Holyoke. With the win, the Beavers advance to the semifinal match Sunday at 9:30 a.m. to take on number one ranked Wellesley College. Mount Holyoke was eliminated from the tournament with the loss.

The Beavers started off strong winning all three doubles matches. Senior tri-captains Courtney Farrell (Burlington, Mass.) and Heather Walsh (Warwick, R.I.) won 8-6 at the number one doubles spot. Kali Hogan (Clinton, Mass.) and Jess Huang (Andover, Mass.) won at number two, 8-2,  and Liz Sheerin (Melrose, Mass.) and Rebecca Stone (Dover, Mass.) won in the tiebreaker 9-8 (4) at the number three spot.

Babson put the match away with two straight set singles victories. Huang won 6-2, 6-2, at the number two spot and Walsh won 6-4, 6-1, at number three. Per NEWMAC tournament regulations, the remaining singles matches were halted once the overall match had been decided.
