  • MIT's Bertics and WPI's Bakhtyari Named CoSIDA Academic All-Americans
    December 13, 2017
    AUSTIN, Texas - On Wednesday afternoon CoSIDA announced their annual Women's Volleyball Academic All-America honorees. The NEWMAC saw MIT's Abby Bertics and WPI's Azita Bakhtyari garner recognition for both their performances in the classroom and on the court. To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

    BEVERLY, Mass. - November 21, 2017 - The New England Women’s Volleyball Coaches Association (NEWVA) has released their 2017 NEWVA Annual Awards honoring the region’s Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year, the All-New England Teams and All-Rookie Team. MIT's Abby Bertics earned major honors being named the NEWVA Player of the Year.

    LEXINGTON, Kentucky - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced the 37th annual AVCA All-America teams for NCAA Division III women's volleyball on November 14th. The NEWMAC saw an impressive eight student-athletes recognized for their performances during the 2017 season.
  • Babson Suffers Four-Set Loss to Ithaca in NCAA Tournament Potsdam Regional Final

    POTSDAM, N.Y.—The Babson College women’s volleyball team saw its NCAA Tournament run come to an end with a four-set (25-17, 23-25, 25-20, 25-15) loss to Ithaca College in the Potsdam Regional final on Sunday afternoon inside Alumni Gymnasium. 
  • No. 18 MIT Falls to No. 8 Johnson & Wales in Five-Set NCAA Regional Final

    The Lead: No. 18 MIT's comeback-bid fell short as No. 8 Johnson & Wales University put together a late rally in the fifth set to record a 25-11, 25-22, 24-26, 22-25, 15-13 victory in the regional final of the NCAA Women's Volleyball Tournament on Sunday. Senior Alli Davanzo (Saint Johns, Fla.) and junior Abby Bertics (La Jolla, Calif.) represented the Engineers on the NCAA Providence, R.I. Regional All-Tournament Team.
  • No. 18 MIT Outlasts Tufts in Five-Set Thriller to Advance to NCAA Regional Final

    The Lead: The nationally-ranked No. 18 MIT women's volleyball team battled Tufts University for a 25-23, 13-25, 26-28, 30-28, 15-10 victory in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Engineers secured a spot in the regional final for the second time in three years.
  • Babson Outlasts Clarkson in Five Sets to Reach Potsdam Regional Final

    POTSDAM, N.Y.—First-year Allie Puccio (New Hartford, N.Y.) had five of her career-high 25 kills in the decisive fifth set as the Babson College women’s volleyball team rallied for an epic 3-2 win over Clarkson University in the second round of the NCAA Tournament Potsdam Regional on Saturday night at Alumni Gymnasium. The Beavers took the final two sets to outlast the Golden Knights, 27-29, 25-21, 31-33, 25-23, 15-12, in a match that lasted exactly two-and-a-half hours.
  • Wellesley Volleyball's Season Comes To A Close With NCAA Setback To Wesleyan (Conn.)

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Wesleyan University (Conn.) earned a 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-22) victory over Wellesley College volleyball in the First Round of the 2017 NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship on Friday evening at the Wildcat Center on the campus of Johnson & Wales University.

    The Lead: Nationally-ranked No. 18 MIT swept Maine Maritime Academy, 25-15, 25-13, 25-16, in the first round of the NCAA Women's Volleyball Tournament on Friday at Johnson & Wales University. Junior Abby Bertics (La Jolla, Calif.) led all player with 10 kills while hitting .364 for the Engineers.
  • Babson Women’s Volleyball Downs Vassar in NCAA Tournament First Round, 3-1

    POTSDAM, N.Y.—Sophomore Kristin Carosotto (East Greenwich, R.I.) and first-year Allie Puccio (New Hartford, N.Y.) both finished with 12 kills as the Babson College women’s volleyball team defeated Vassar College, 3-1 (25-11, 25-15, 19-25, 25-21) in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Friday evening at Alumni Gymnasium on the campus of Clarkson University. 
  • NCAA Bound: MIT, Wellesley and Babson Earn Place in NCAA Division III Volleyball National Championship

    INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The NCAA Division III Women’s Volleyball Committee announced today the field of 64 teams for the 2017 NCAA Division III Women’s Volleyball Championship. Forty-three conferences were awarded an automatic qualification for the 2017 championship while 20 earned At-Large bids. The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) was see three institutions punch tickets as MIT earned the automatic qualifier with Wellesley and Babson both earning at-large nods.
  • NEWMAC Announces 2017 Volleyball Postseason Honors

    WESTWOOD, Mass. – The New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced the Volleyball All-Conference and Postseason Awards on Tuesday afternoon. After helping lead the MIT Engineers to an impressive 2017 season, Abby Bertics has been named the Athlete of the Year. Leading the conference in digs and digs per set, Clark’s Rayme Quiban has been named the Defensive Player of the Year while Abby’s teammate, Andie Maloney, the conference leader in assists per set has been named the Rookie of the Year.
  • MIT Sweeps Wellesley to Capture Second Straight NEWMAC Championship

    Top-seeded MIT defeated No. 3 Wellesley College, 25-23, 25-15, 25-21, to capture its second straight and sixth overall NEWMAC Women's Volleyball Championship on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Engineers will be making their 19th appearance in the upcoming NCAA Tournament. Junior Carly Silvernale(Bellevue, Wash.) was named the tournament Most Outstanding Player after generating 36 digs, including 28 in MIT's five-set semifinal victory over Wheaton College.

    BABSON PARK, Mass.—First-year Allie Puccio (New Hartford, N.Y.) led all players with 16 kills and classmate Gaby Miller (Miami, Fla.) added 11 kills to help the second-seeded Babson College women’s volleyball team pick up a four-set victory (25-9, 25-15, 24-26, 25-14) over seventh-seeded Springfield College in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament quarterfinal on Tuesday night at Staake Gymnasium. 
  • No. 4 Wheaton Takes Down No. 5 Clark in NEWMAC Quarterfinals

    Wheaton collects its first New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) playoff win since 1998 when the Lyons swept Smith College. The Lyons ended the game with a season-high 107 digs and 67 kills.

    WELLESLEY, Mass. – First year outside hitters Lauren Gedney (Huntersville, N.C.) and Nikki Jensen (Castro Valley, Calif.) combined for 25 kills to lead third-seeded Wellesley College volleyball to a 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-19) sweep of sixth-seeded Coast Guard in the quarterfinals of the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Volleyball Championship on Tuesday night at Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse. 
  • MIT's Bertics and Clark's Quiban Named Athletes of the Week

    In a 2-0 week for MIT, Abby Bertics recorded 31 kills and a .394 hitting percentage. She started things off last Tuesday by producing a match-high 16 kills to go along with a .364 hitting performance in a sweep of Emerson. Quiban helped lift the Cougars to a 2-0 week to close out the regular season this past week.
  • NEWMAC Releases 2017 Volleyball Championship Bracket, MIT Takes Top Seed

    WESTWOOD, Mass. – With the conclusion of the 2017 volleyball regular season this afternoon, the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) has released the 2017 NEWMAC Volleyball Championship bracket. The volleyball championship consists of seven teams that will compete for the title which will begin on Tuesday, October 31st with the quarterfinal round.

    In a 3-1 week for MIT, Andie Maloney tallied 145 assists, 27 digs, and four blocks. Wellesley junior middle hitter Yasmine Reece had a big week on defense in the front row, registering 20 total blocks to help the Blue to a 3-1 record.

    Wellesley junior Yasmine Reece finished the week with 44 kills in two matches, as the Blue extended their season-high win streak to 10 with a pair of wins. Quiban had a great week for the Cougars boasting a total of 57 digs in three matches.

    BABSON PARK, Mass.—The Babson College women's volleyball team volunteered at the College's second annual Fresh Check Day on Friday, September 29, at the Park Manor Quad. The festival-type event bringing the community together to check-in on college students' mental health was co-sponsored by Babson Health & Wellness and the Jordan Porco Foundation.

    Wellesley first year Lauren Gedney had an incredible week for the Blue. Cameron had a monster week averaging 9.40 assists, 2.00 digs and 1.30 kills in a 3-0 week for Babson. Simine was critical in helping the Lyons snap a 25-match losing streak in NEWMAC action.

    Wellesley junior Michelle Li paced the Blue offense to a 2-0 NEWMAC record this week, totaling 70 assists. Wellesley junior Samantha Hoang racked up 45 digs in two matches this week, leading the Blue to a 2-0 NEWMAC record.
  • Springfield's Sanchez and MIT's Bertics Takes NEWMAC Weekly Honors

    Sanchez continued her torrid defensive start to the 2017 season as she registered 70 digs in just three matches to go along with 11 assists and a pair of service aces. In a 3-0 week for MIT, Abby Bertics tallied 55 kills, a .417 hitting percentage, and six blocks. She racked up a career-high 25 kills to go along with a .300 hitting performance, five digs, and three blocks in a 3-1 win over Springfield on Tuesday.
  • MIT's Maloney and Springfield's Sanchez Take NEWMAC Weekly Honors

    In a 4-0 week for MIT, Andie Maloney tallied 110 assists, 34 digs, and five blocks. Sanchez had another outstanding week defensively for Springfield, totaling 79 digs, 18 assists, and four service aces.

    In a 4-0 weekend for MIT that saw it sweep its way to the Morrisville State College Mustang Tournament title. Sanchez was sensational in her sophomore debut and helped Springfield to a 4-0 start as it won the Springfield College Invitational.
