NEWMAC Baseball Athlete of the Week

Matt Johnston, MIT (Jr., OF – Portola Valley, Calif.)

In a 5-1 week that included a 4-0 mark in NEWMAC play, Johnston hit .556 with 15 hits in 27 at-bats as he has now reached base safely in 15 straight games. He posted five multi-hit games, including two four-hit outings in conference matchups to end the week with two doubles, one home run, 11 runs batted in, 20 total bases and four stolen bases. Johnston also added four walks, 13 putouts with a 1.000 fielding percentage, a .741 slugging percentage and a .594 on-base percentage. 

NEWMAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week

Patrick Callahan, MIT (So., P – Vicksburg, Mich.)

In a home shutout of Emerson College on Friday, Callahan went eight innings and allowed just three hits and struck out a career-high 12 batters to improve to 3-0 on the season. In the win, he had four 1-2-3 innings and his 12 strikeouts were an MIT season-high for starting pitchers.
