  • Brian Bubna Named as MIT Football Head Coach

    CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Brian Bubna has been named as the MIT football head coach, as announced by MIT director of athletics Julie Soriero. Bubna has been a member of the MIT football coaching staff since the 2010 season and has served as the program’s defensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator since 2012. 
  • Catholic's DiNardo and Springfield's Giorgio, Hayden Earn AFCA All-America Honors

    WACO, Texas. — On Tuesday afternoon the American Football Coaches Association (ACFA) announced the annual All-America selections. The NEWMAC saw three student-athletes earn recognition as Catholic's Andrew DiNardo and Springfield's Nick Giorgia and Christopher Hayden all saw Second Team All-America honors. The AFCA has selected an All-America team since 1945 and currently selects teams in all five of its divisions. What makes these teams so special is that they are the only ones chosen exclusively by the men who know the players the best — the coaches themselves.

    WASHINGTON — The Catholic University of America football senior Patrick Vidal was selected as a nominee for the fifth annual Cliff Harris Award, which recognizes the nation's top small college defensive player, as announced by the Little Rock Touchdown Club on Wednesday afternoon.
  • NEWMAC See's Five Earn CoSIDA Academic All-America Honors, MIT's Goyal Recipient of Academic All-America Athlete of the Year Award

    AUSTIN, Texas - On Wednesday afternoon CoSIDA announced their annual Football Academic All-America honorees. The NEWMAC saw an impressive five student-athletes earn recognition which was highlighted by MIT's Udgam Goyal who was the recipient of the CoSIDA Academic All-America Athlete of the Year award. Joining Goyal on First Team was Springfield's Christopher Hayden while the Pride's Jordan Wilcox and Dominic Traversa along with MIT's Eddy Garcia-Montes were named to the Second Team. To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

  • WPI Earns First Postseason Win, Defeats Maritime (NY) in New England Bowl Series

    WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior Luca Cerasani (Abington, MA) was named the Most Valuable Player as the WPI football team earned its first-ever postseason game in the form of a 17-3 triumph over visiting Maritime (NY) Saturday in a New England Bowl Series matchup Saturday night in Alumni Stadium.
  • NEWMAC Announces 2017 Football Postseason Awards After Successful Inaugural Season

    WESTWOOD, Mass. – The New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) is pleased to announce the 2017 Football All-Conference Teams and postseason major honors after a successful Inaugural Season. The conference honors an Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Athlete of the Year along with Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year. The All-Conference list is comprised of 29 selections on both first and second team. 
  • New England Bowl Game Series Matchup's Announced; WPI to Host Maritime

    WESTWOOD, Mass. - The WPI Engineers, the Maritime Privateers, the Curry Colonels, and the Framingham State Rams have been selected as the participants in the 2017 New England Bowl Series which will be played at local sites on Saturday, November 18. 
  • Springfield's Wilcox, Giorgio and Catholic's Bartlett Named Final NEWMAC Football Athletes of the Week

    Wilcox put together an incredible performance in his regular-season finale as he churned up 221 yards on 18 carries, averaging 12.3 yards per carry. Giorgio put together a dominating effort as Springfield wrapped up an undefeated regular season with a 43-7 win over MIT. Catholic's sophomore kicker Pearce Bartlett accounted for nine points in the Cardinals road victory at Maine Maritime that evened their record at 5-5 overall.
  • NCAA BOUND - No. 19 Springfield To Host Husson In NCAA Division III Championship First Round

    SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Springfield College football team is headed back to the NCAA Division III Championship as it was chosen as an at-large into the 32-team field on Sunday night.  Springfield was awarded a first-round home game and will host Husson University on Stagg Field this Saturday afternoon.

  • WPI, Merchant Marine and MIT Take Home NEWMAC Weekly Nod

    Moore led all rushers in the Mariners' 62-27 victory over Catholic on Saturday with 104 yards and found the end zone twice on the day. In a 20-0 Senior Day shutout win over Norwich, Turley led the Engineers with 10 tackles that included nine solo stops. Pacheco amassed 10 tackles including eight solo stops, to go with a sack, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and a blocked PAT. Herrington remains perfect in extra points with a 6-for-6 performance for the Engineers who ran their winning-streak to five games following a triumph over Coast Guard on Saturday.

  • WPI's McAllen, Ostrowski and Herrington Sweep NEWMAC Football Honors

    McAllen scored what proved to be the game-winning touchdown in a 24-21 triumph over MIT Saturday. Ostrowski totaled a career-high 11 tackles, forced a fumble and returned an interception on the final play of the first half 55 yards for a touchdown. Herrington added six more points his resume Saturday in a 24-21 win at MIT.
  • Springfield's Wilcox, Norwich's Quinn and WPI's Herrington Land NEWMAC Weekly Honors

    Wilcox put together a dominant first half for Springfield as the senior fullback carried the ball 13 times for 212 yards while finding the end zone three times as he averaged just over 16 yards per carry. Quinn was essential on the defensive unit that helped lead Norwich to a 24-22 victory over conference opponent Maine Maritime. Herrington accounted for just over a quarter of WPI's scoring in a 41-7 home triumph vs Merchant Marine Saturday.

    Creeger helped lead Maine Maritime Academy to a 34-16 NEWMAC victory over Coast Guard Academy. Giorgio was a key part of a relentless Springfield defense that powered the Pride to a 35-17 win at Merchant Marine. Swayne had a great day on special teams for Merchant Marine on Saturday despite the Mariners' 35-13 home loss to #25 Springfield.

    SPRINGFIELD, MASS. - For the second consecutive year, Commonwealth Coast Football (CCC), the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC), the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) and the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) will team up to present the New England Bowl series on Saturday, November 18, 2017, the commissioners of the four conferences announced today.

    In a 35-7 road win at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Goyal completed 20 of 30 pass attempts for 217 yards. In a road win at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Nicolai had 10 total tackles that included seven solo stops and one pass breakup. Catholic's sophomore kicker connected on two field goals in the Cardinals' first NEWMAC win.

    In a 38-21 road win at Catholic, Robertson posted a career-high 185 yards with three touchdowns to lead the offense. Scott anchored a Springfield defense that helped the Pride to a 42-10 win over WPI in its NEWMAC opener. Crowley was outstanding in a game that did not feature much offense and he helped the Bears win the field position battle.

    Creeger led Maine Maritime Academy's offense in a heartbreaking 34-25 loss to Massachusetts Maritime in the 45th Annual Admiral's Cup. Vidal once again keyed a defensive effort the Cardinals that helped Catholic to a 25-20 win over ODAC powerhouse Randolph-Macon. Humulock was a perfect 9-for-9 on extra points and drilled his first career field goal, a 33-yard attempt.

    Springfield College senior fullback Jordan Wilcox help lead Springfield to a 28-8 non-conference victory over Kean University to improve to 2-0 for the first time since 2013. Senior defensive lineman Patrick Vidal anchored a staunch defensive effort that forced five turnovers in a 16-10 win over Utica in its home-opener, the first career win for head coach Mike Gutelius.Tamburro remained perfect in 2017 in kicking. He hit his point after attempt and a 24-yard field goal to improve to 3-for-3 on the year.

    Eglintine led Springfield to a win over nationally-ranked Western New England. Pacheco amassed six solo tackles, of which four were for-loss (29 yards), including two sacks (13 yards). Herrington, who came into the game 1-for-1 in career extra points.
