MIT Named Preseason Favorite in Softball Coaches' Poll

WESTWOOD, Mass. - After an exciting 2018 season, the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) is looking forward to the competition ahead for the league's 10 softball programs.

After winning its first NEWMAC Championship in program history and appearing in the Division III College World Series, MIT was named the preseason favorite with six first place votes. Babson finished at the No. 2 spot with three first place votes after a NEWMAC final appearance, while WPI holds the No. 3 spot with one first place vote. No. 4 Springfield, No. 5 Emerson and No. 6 Coast Guard follow, while No. 7 Wheaton, No. 8 Wellesley, No. 9 Clark and No. 10 Smith round out the remaining spots.

The NEWMAC returns 10 All-Conference honorees along with seven All-Region award winners (Carly Hattman, Coast Guard; Devon Goetz, Ravenne Nassar, Sarah Von Ahn, MIT; Caraline Wood, Marissa Gonzales, Renee LeClaire, WPI). Highlighting the returners is the 2018 NEWMAC Pitcher of the Year and All-American in MIT's Nassar and the 2018 NEWMAC Rookie of the Year in WPI's Gonzales.
