NEWMAC Announces 2016 Women's Soccer Postseason Honors

BOSTON, Mass. - The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) released the Women's Soccer postseason awards on Wednesday morning. After helping lead MIT to a 17-5-1 overall record and a share of the Regular Season Champions, Olivia Struckman has been named the NEWMAC Athlete of the Year. With WPI also claiming Co-Regular season Champions status leading to earning the NEWMAC Crown over the weekend, Gabi Hoops has been named the Defensive Player of the Year while her teammate Kristen McCrea garnered Rookie of the Year honors while also earning the Tournament Most Outstanding Player nod. 

Leading the WPI Engineers to the programs first title in its history, head coach Steph Schafer was honored as the 2016 Coach of the Year.

Joining Struckman and McCrea on First Team is; Olivia Kerester (Babson), Carley Phillips (Wellesley), Paige Haley (Emerson), Sara Sanau Ruiz (Mount Holyoke), Kim Quiles (Springfield), Susannah Gray (WPI), Emily Berzolla (MIT), Dakota Kelly (Springfield), Jennifer Narlee (Babson), Brianna Messier (Springfield) and Lauren Ullmann (MIT).

Taking home Second Team honors with Hoops is; Mikaela Coady (Springfield), Jessica Fernandes (Babson), Jess Frost (Emerson), Megan Healy (Wheaton), Kara Fischer (Clark), Sydney Ferrell (Wheaton), Emily Matthews (Coast Guard), Jenacee Bradbury (Springfield), Hailey Nichols (MIT), Leann Wolf (Wheaton) and Zoe Marshall (Mount Holyoke).

New to the conference this year, the NEWMAC has established an All-Sportsmanship Team for the 2016-17 Academic Year. The award is intended to recognize one student-athlete from each team, in every sport that best demonstrates the ideals of the NEWMAC and its Code of Conduct, regardless of his/her overall performance or statistics for the season.
